Our YMCA Holiday Intensive Swimming Program will be running again this January!

The program is a great way for your child to enjoy the water over the school holidays in a fun and educational environment. It’s a good way to kick-start your child’s aquatic educational experience or give your child that extra boost needed to move to the next level. And after more than 200 days without swimming lessons it’s more important than ever to learn how to be safe in and around the water.  The intensive day program allows children to learn and build new skills after a long break from the water.

The program consists of five days of swimming instruction, plus a water safety skills lesson which takes place on the final day of the program. Beach and water safety education, life jacket experience and personal survival skills will all be covered to provide children with vital skills and knowledge to safely enjoy water fun this summer.

Our certified swimming teachers assess your child's level on the first day, provide lesson instruction as well as guidance on any technique gaps. We also provide plenty of encouragement and so that children have a positive experience and their water confidence grows.

The YMCA adhere to the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operation and the Watch Around Water Policy. Watch Around Water promotes consistent supervision of children by parents while at aquatic facilities. Children under the age of 10 years must be accompanied in the facility and constantly supervised by an adult. During the lesson, the parent/guardian must watch the class and locate themselves within viewing distance without physical or structural barriers between you and the class. At the start of the lesson parents are required to come to the edge of the pool and directly hand their child over to the teacher.
